Judy Szöllősy, who as Péter Esterházy’s English translator is more familiar with his writings than perhaps anyone else, has now brought to audiences Esterházy’s writings as editor, dramaturge, and director. The evening at the Spinoza Theater is thought provoking, funny and ironic – a true intellectual’s delight. Calling Péter Esterházy’s writings to his aid, popular actor István Hirtling talked about the writer, Hungarians, words and sentences, fathers and mothers, the Trabant, the Lord and the angels, the jazz saxophone, the universe, and of course, women! Meanwhile a picture emerged – experience and fantasy are one.

As they listened to this medley, Esterházy’s fans rediscovered to their delight excerpts from Celestial Harmonies, a Little Hungarian Pornography, the Book of Hrabal, and the author’s many other writings as reinterpreted by Judy Szöllősy.
There are so many more sentences and thoughts waiting to materialize on stage. Judy, we’re waiting for the next „installment”!
